Thyroid Biopsy

A thyroid biopsy uses ultrasound  imaging to guide the radiologist in taking a tissue sample from the thyroid gland.  Many patients have fluid filled cysts or solid nodules  and a biopsy of these lesions can direct future treatment.  As the thyroid is vital in regulating metabolism, a biopsy can help identify problems early on.  The samples taken are very small and local anesthetic is administered.
